During his presidency, James Monroe issued the Monroe doctrine. This stated that North and South America were no longer oppurtunities for European countries to colonize, and would not interfere in Western Hemisphere affairs.
James Monroe was born April 28,1758. He was born in Westmoreland county Virginia . When he was 16 he left home to go to college at Williams and Marys school . Two years later he left college to go to the army. When Monroe was 24 he was a legislator of Virginia. His wife is named Elisabeth Kiortright Monroe. He had a boy who was named Hester and two girls named Eliza, and Maria. He was a minister of France and England. He was a governor of Virginia. He was a secretary of state and of war.
Monroe told the Spanish and other European nations "Hands off!" He decalared that the United States permit no foreign interference in the new world. We remeber James Monroe best for this Monroe doctrine. After he was president he went back to Virginia.He went to New York to see his daughter. He died July 4, 1831. JH- 3rd Grade
